OPENING HOURS

The Anastaseos Cemetery is located at the end of Anapafseos Street in Keratsini and is one of the most significant cemeteries in Piraeus. Established in the late 19th century, it became the new cemetery of Piraeus as the city expanded beyond the Agios Dionysios area.

The cemetery is the final resting place for many prominent figures in Piraeus’ society, featuring important funerary monuments that are exemplary works of architecture and sculpture. Following the opening of the new cemetery in Schisto, Anastaseos Cemetery ceased regular operations, with exceptions made for existing family tombs.

Cinematic Aesthetic: The cemetery exudes a historic and gothic aesthetic, with grand mausoleums, statues, and lush vegetation creating an atmosphere of serenity, contemplation, and mystery.

Reasons for Selection: Anastaseos Cemetery offers authentic and historic settings, suitable for films exploring themes of mortality, memory, and legacy. The impressive funerary monuments and the overall atmosphere make it ideal for scenes requiring dramatic intensity and emotional depth.

Type of Film: Ideal for historical dramas, thrillers, horror films, and documentaries focused on the history or art of funerary monuments.

Directorial Perspective: Focuses on the intensity and depth provided by the location, utilizing the mausoleums and statues as central elements in scenes, creating a sense of mysticism and historical weight.
